The Wired Educator Podcast will deliver content to help educators make a greater impact, be more productive, increase their efficiency, and improve their lifestyles. I really want to emphasize my love and passion for learning and teaching. I truly want to make a difference in the lives of students and help inspire the next generation of educators. I share methods that I have learned from some of the most amazing educators around the globe on how to become a better educator, while expanding their classroom as a writer, speaker, and professional. In this episode of the Wired Educator Podcast, Kelly interviews April Requard. April is an Apple Distinguished Educator, and she has given an amazing TED Talk about the SWAT Team (Students Working to Advance Technology) she created at her school. Kelly and April talk about all of this, her film festival at her schoo, iTunes U,  and so much! April is an Instructional Technology Teacher at North Star Elementary in Albuquerque. April began her teaching career as a third grade teacher before moving into the role of technology teacher several years later. This role switch truly changed the trajectory in April’s career path and ever since then, April has been committed to teaching students and teachers how to infuse technology tools in the classroom to achieve learning which was once not possible. April has also worked as a professional development specialist where she worked alongside educators and leaders to provide high quality professional development for innovative and effective use of digital resources and technology integration in their classrooms. April has a passion to inspire teachers and school leaders with powerful, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences by enhancing learning with technology tools and creative curriculum resources.  April is a published author and has created two published courses in iTunes University. She is an avid educational blogger (appsolutelyapril.com) and believes strongly in the power of social media for educators to grow and expand their professional learning network. April is an Apple Distinguished Educator and is part of a growing number of teachers looking to change the educational landscape by using powerful technology tools.

In this episode Kelly interviews Brian Foutty about why everyone should learn to code and why the Swift Programming Language is the language to pursue.

Brian Foutty is Apple Distinguished Educator and  the Innovative Learning Specialist in charge of his districts' iPad 1:1 initiative and has been charged with implementing and maintaining the iPad deployment, MDM software, supporting staff and students with IT support, professional development, student learning on iPad. Additionally, Brian teaches the Swift programming language and iOS app development to Career/Tech students. Brian has developed and published 13 iOS apps and is the author of iTunes U course "A Swift Time to Code" which was featured by Apple in 2015. Brian has been using iPad since its launch. Kelly interviews Erin Murphy and Ross Cooper, the authors a great new book titled Hacking Project Based Learning: 10 Easy Steps to PBL and Inquiry in the Classroom.

Ross Cooper is the coauthor of Hacking Project Based Learning, and the Supervisor of Instructional Practice K-12 in the Salisbury Township School District (1:1 MacBook/iPad) in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and a Google Certified Innovator. His passions are inquiry-based learning and quality professional development.

Erin Murphy is coauthor of Hacking Project Based Learning. Currently, she has the pleasure of serving as the assistant principal of Eyer Middle School in the East Penn School District. As a certified literacy specialist, she also coordinates the middle level ELA department.
