In this episode of The Wired Educator Podcast I Interview Samantha Wheeler. A typical Wired Educator Podcast guest is someone who’s written books, speaks from the stage, or earned multiple recognitions and awards for education, my guest today is wonderful and awesome, but for none of those reasons; Samantha is a senior in college rocking it as a student-teacher in one of the most challenging times in education. I wanted a fresh perspective on teaching and learning and Sami delivered. She is brilliant. I learned so much from this interview and you will too.

Samantha Wheeler, or Sami as she goes by, is a current senior in college at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. She is pursuing a dual degree in secondary education and mathematics. So far, she has completed an educational technology certification as well as a Google Level 1 Educator certification. She is also a part of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program which seeks to place teachers with strong STEM content knowledge into high-need school districts upon graduation.

At Rider, Sami is extremely involved on campus and is a part of many different organizations such as the Student Education Association, Math Club and four different national honors societies! She has made herself known on campus through multiple leadership and mentoring roles such as working as an orientation leader, peer coaching new students, and leading seminars for first year education majors. Sami has just started her last semester of college and is currently student teaching in a local middle school in a 7th grade math class.

Once she graduates, Sami plans to teach math at the secondary level where she can’t wait to share her love of STEM with others! She hopes to someday earn her masters and even possibly her PhD in hopes to teach upper level mathematics at the collegiate level.

In this episode of the Wired Educator Podcast, I interview Dr. Jill Siler, Texas superintendent, and author of Thrive Through the Five: Practical Truths to Powerfully Lead Through Challenging Times.

In her first months as a superintendent, Jill faced financial crisis along with many other challenges that leadership brings. In 2015, her school board was named a TASA Honor Board as one of the top 5 school boards in the state and one of her campuses was named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Jill is the Chair of the Future-Ready Superintendent Leadership Network (FRSLN) Design Team through the Texas Association of school Administrators (TASA) where innovative leaders from across the state gather to learn, share and grow together.

Jill has a passion for helping others reach their goals and is the leader of TASA’s Aspiring Superintendent Academy, and a frequent speaker at Texas’ First-Time Superintendent Academy as well as other leadership and education conferences. Her writing can be found on her website, jillmsiler.com where the initial blog inspiring her book, Thrive Through the Five was featured in the November 2019 edition of AASA School Administrator, the national school leadership organization’s publication.

Jill and her husband, William, have been married for 20 years and have two children: Caitlyn who is 15 years old and in 10th grade and Caleb who is 11 years old and in 6th grade.

In this episode of The Wired Educator Podcast, I interview Mike Yates. Mike is without a doubt one of the most innovative Educators I believe I have ever interviewed. He has an unbelievably unique perspective on education that you absolutely need to hear. This is not a typical wired educator podcast. Mike and I have an incredible authentic discussion on the challenges and opportunities for education. We talk about what it really takes to create change, and we have an awesome conversation on race and equity in education as well.

I’m so happy you chose this episode of The Wired Educator Podcast. Buckle up. Lean in. It's time to level up

I love this interview!

Mike Yates is working to reinvent the school system. Every single day. THAT is what gets him up in the morning.

He is the Senior Managing Director of Network Strategies of the TFA Reinvention Lab. He's looking to find, connect, and add value to people doing the real work of school reinvention at the intersection of equity and innovation.

When he's not working in the lab he coaches public speakers, advises education startups, and hosts a podcast called Schoolish.
