On this episode, Kelly interviews Kristin Ziemke, the author of the new book Amplify. Kristen and Kelly talk about literacy, technology in education, and a whole range of topics on how to make a greater impact as a teacher. This is a great interview, and one that was requested by many listeners.

Kristin's mantra came to her literally from a fortune cookie that read: "The best teacher is also a student." She has taught in both urban and suburban school districts including primary grades in Chicago. She engages students in authentic learning experience where reading, thinking and collaboration and inquiry are the very heart of the curriculum. Kristin pairs her best practice instruction with digital tools to transform learning in the classroom and beyond.

Kristin is an Apple Distinguished Educator, National Board Certified Teacher, and Chicago's 2013 Tech Innovator of the Year.

This podcast is way more than just how to start a Lego Mindstorm Robotics Club with your Middle School Science students, although that alone is amazing. This post also inspires teachers to start engagin clubs for students and shows them how to do it.

Leah LaCrosse is an amazing Science teacher at McCormick Junior High School in Huron, Ohio. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator. She has been recognized for work in education on many levels by many organizations. I absolutely love the robotics club she started with her students and wanted to share her passion and knowledge with all of the wired educators out there that read the blog and tune in to the podcast. Leah is amazing.

Leah loves using technology in the classroom. Her room is outfitted with MacBooks, iPads, a 3D printer, Lego Robots, Little Bits, and more. She focuses on technology, problem solving and team work. Her latest accomplishment is her #flexibleseating program, which she describes as: "The room is a blend of traditional desks, lab tables, park bench, standing dry erase tables, and other creative learning spaces. Students love coming to a room in which they can find their learning space that works for them."

WEP 0006: Ditch That Textbook an Interview with Matt Miller

Kelly Croy interviews Matt Miller about using resources to supplement or replace your textbook, and creating learning materials that really engage students. Lots of takeaways from today's episode, but the focus is primarily to get you thinking about how you use your existing textbook and a look at other possibilities.

Please visit our sponsor at: www.planbook.com

Matt Miller is a teacher, blogger and presenter from West Central Indiana. He has infused technology and innovative teaching methods in his classes for more than 10 years. He writes at the Ditch That Textbook blog about using technology and creative ideas in teaching. He is a Google Certified Teacher (Austin ’14), a PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator, a Bammy! Matt has presented to thousands of teachers at dozens of workshops on a number of topics related to educational technology, world language instruction and more. He combines a conversational, engaging speaking style with loads of resources, leaving teachers equipped and inspired to move forward.
